Modular Bridges

Philippines

Waagner-Biro modular bridges comprise a flexible and extendible modular system that can be adapted to special customer requirements. Waagner-Biro is one of the most renowned international suppliers of system bridges. The modular concept offers all advantages of modern bridge construction and, simultaneously, a top level of flexibility with regards to bridge width, span width and load. Specific requirements in any countries can be met without problem. Modular bridges are used mainly for permanent and semi-permanent bridging of valleys and rivers.

Application / Handling

Bridge units can be assembled with basic tools by local and trained assistants. The most common span widths are 35 to 60m with the usual interval stages of 5 metres. Bridge span widths of up to 120m can also be implemented with the modular construction method. Bridge widths vary between 4m for a single lane and 7.3 m for a double lane bridge road. Multiple lane modular bridges can also be supplied upon customer request. The pedestrian lanes are normally set up with a width of approx. 0.7m. Several individual bridges can be easily combined to form longer bridges.

Advantages of Modular Bridges

  • Rapid availability
  • Rapid construction time
  • Suitable for all types of road traffic (including multiple lanes) and for railway traffic
  • Standardised, compact components which are interchangeable
  • Easy transport of modules
  • Low maintenance and repair costs
  • Low unit weights of bridge components
  • Low intrinsic weight with high-strength steel
  • Various static systems possible (single-span girders, continuous girders)
  • High durability due to fatigue-resistant construction
  • Improved corrosion protection through hot dip galvanising
  • Assembly possible with unskilled assistants
  • No welding work on building site, high-strength bolts instead
  • Simple, low-maintenance and replaceable plastic bearings
