The railway tracks along the port were to be re-laid and extended. For that purpose, a bascule bridge was built over the port entrance from 2000 to 2001. Waagner Biro was awarded the contract for all machinery. Each bridge leaf was equipped with a drive aggregate with 4 piston pumps. The installed output for both bridge sections is 320 kW. The moving mass of the bridge is 1000 tons per bridge leaf; the span length from centre of motion to centre of motion of the two bridge sections is 98m. At the time of opening, the bascule bridge of Valencia was the largest railway bascule bridge in the world.
